Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is an American multinational holding company based in Omaha, Nebraska. It functions as a diversified conglomerate whose subsidiaries participate in many industries, including insurance, freight rail transportation, energy generation and distribution, miscellaneous services, manufacturing and retail. The company is synonymous with celebrity investor Warren Buffett, who serves as chairman and chief executive. Berkshire Hathaway started its business strategy on long-term investments in publicly traded companies, but of late has pivoted to full ownership of selected companies. Notable brands under the full control of Berkshire Hathaway include GEICO, Duracell, Dairy Queen, BNSF Railway, Lubrizol and Fruit of the Loom. Berkshire also has appreciable minority ownership in such public companies as Kraft Heinz, American Express, Bank of America, The Coca-Cola Company, and Apple Inc. Further, the company holds a large portfolio of equity securities and derivatives, which heavily contribute to its financial performance.
