The Bank of America (BoA) Corporation is an American multinational financial services firm and investment bank headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is widely acknowledged as the second-largest banking firm in the US, after JPMorgan Chase, which also makes BoA the second-largest bank in the world by market capitalization. BoA is part of the Big Four banking institutions of the US, alongside JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo.
BoA concentrates its services on commercial banking, wealth management, and investment banking. In the commercial banking space, the Bank of America operates – although it may not necessarily maintain – retail branches in all 50 states of the US, the District of Columbia, and in excess of 40 additional countries. The bank's large market share, mushrooming business activities and economic impact, have led to its ascension to the position of the 13th largest company in the world and the the sixth-largest American public company. BoA has been ranked as high as the top 13 Fortune 500 rankings of the largest US corporations by total revenue.
